UNUM group income protection wont pay

My employer provides UNUM group income protection which has paid me for about five years. All of a sudden UNUM have decided that I don't qualify and am fit to work.. As part of the appeals process I have provided them with them with five medical reports from different specialists confirming that I am not fit to work. They have now written to my GP picking all the reports apart. They have not given me a final answer to my appeal but I am not sure what I can do and assuming they say no to my appeal what can I do next. The whole stress is making me more unwell and has been going on nearly five months. We are now having to look at selling up our house etc. I am disabled and in receipt of a full PIP (personal independence payment) for needing care and help with mobility. I just don't understand what to do next.

Whenever you are unhappy with your insurer the route to take is a formal complaint.
Then if you are unhappy with the reply or they ignore you for 8 weeks you can escalate to the FOS for their adjudication at no cost to you0 -
It is definitely that UNUM say you are fit for work and not that the plan was only designed to pay out for a limited period of time? It's not unusual for group IP schemes to only pay for 5-years.0

The policy should pay out until I am 65.0

Sounds to me, based on the limited info, that they are being pretty unreasonable. Especially if you are in receipt of PIP and have several different reports from different specialists, however, I suppose it depends on the basis under which the plan has been paying out. Certain medical conditions, such as mental health issues or back pain, can be difficult to both prove and disprove which might explain their action in this instance.0

There is a mental health element that has been caused by struggling with physical disability and post cancer issues. It is making us struggle so badly financially.0

The GP has replied to another UNUM letter. Can anyone advise whether/ when I should get a solicitor involved ?0
