Child tax credit and child benefit

Oh boy this is a strange one.

I'm moving away soon to join my partner and then I will be heading off to college (woo!)

Trying to do some research, and i've read up because i'm going to be in approved education that the child tax and benefit should still be there.

because he is my partner, is he technically able to claim for me for child tax credits or would that be illegal/fraud etc?

cheers.

You're his partner not a child he is responsible for so no he couldn't claim CTC for you. That would be all kinds of creepy.
  • Ah right cheers anyway :) doesnt make no difference anyway but thank you! x

but surely they wouldn't be allowed to as i wouldn't be living with them anymore -- im moving away fully, so i'll no longer be there anymore?

It's up to your parents to notify a change of circumstances. HMRC have no access to things like doctors records

Your parents would need to cancel their claims.
