    Hi,
If you could explain a bit more then i could possibly help.Is it just a statement explaining why you'd like them to attend the school? I'm trying to think back to a couple of years ago when I filled in my daughters application

  • yes please. See i have to pick 1st, 2nd and 3 rd choice school. So i have to convince them why i pick these school Currently i am unsure to tell them my boy is good any other things that is necessary so that they could give me the first choice school.

Do you live in the catchment area for your first choice of school? is it highly subscribed to?
I'm just asking as I actually live in an underscribed area where our schools have loads of places and would grab you no matter what you put on your form.

You could put that you've heard wonderful things about the school.Want the best for your child.Important for your child to go to school with other children from his local area for socialising etc.

  • i am in the catchment are. subscription to that school i think is heavy but not overwhelming.
  • You would need to look at the criteria the local authority use to allocate places really. The statement should be relevant to the child e.g if he has siblings at the school, or at a feeder school, special needs and the school excels in that area, or if there are exceptional reasons why he should attend that school. You would generally need to send supporting evidence too.
A LA will rank all children according to its admissions procedures first and foremost - e.g special needs, local authority care, siblings at the school and distance. Putting things like 'it's a lovely school' is a nice sentiment but won't get your child in ahead of another child who lives closer.

    Quite keen moneysaver......
  • TBH, I don't think they read them anyway. They check sibling status, distance etc and feelings don't come into it.

When I sent the supporting letter with my son's application, I went through the info sent from the LEA on each school and what they said about themselves and how I felt we met the criteria. I highlighted the key areas they offer and why it appealed to me. e.g There is a strong emphasis on pastoral care as well as academic achievement and I mentioned why I thought this was important to me and why the school met my needs. I also talked (it's a church school) about our faith. I don't know how much if any emphasis schools place on the letters - however if all the criteria - siblings, ect are full and it comes down to a few - who are much the same - I can't help but feel that they would look favourably on the applicants who have bothered to include a letter.

I just wrote my two reasons - quality of the school and proximity to home (they really don't like all those parents blocking up the road with their cars every morning!:rotfl:)
