don't want to be a party pooper but as a mum to 2 dd's i would say please buy clothes - tescos pyjamas or nighties - or Tchibo range in Sainsbury and Somerfield - pyjamas at £5 are great - t shirts in the sales so if its a 4th birthday buy a 5 year old t shirt - but i prefer not to have more toys - we have more my little ponys and are thinking of having them re-homed!!
arts and craft stuff does get used - paper and colouring pencils, stickers etc

    Hi

    I agree with littleredhen.
The boys equivalent is remote control cars and power rangers and there are only so many a boy needs !!
    I always like books.
If you get the opportunity why not have a word with the little girls mum or dad ?
  • Just a thought. I always try and buy a present that at least costs the same as the poor person has had to pay to invite my child. Less if it is a hall with a home buffet and more if it is in an organised place. At least at the end of a frazzled day they feel that they haven't just entertained lots of 'little darlings' for a cheap bit of plastic.
Pj's or similar is a lovely idea.

  • My daughter just had a 4th birthday - the best presents from her nursery school friends were:
box of pretty sparkly beads (to thread and make necklaces)
    quality books
    a pretty top from Next

All cost around £3 to £6 I would think. My advice would be - don't just buy something cheap and nasty to make a "big" present - we got a lot of junk, and my daughter would have preferred something small, inexpensive, but good quality ps someone advised Poly Pocket - probably a bit small for 4 year olds (especially if they have younger siblings at home)

For my 4yr old neighbour for Christmas I'm making him a cooking set - got some Disney cookie cutters from Tesco for £2 and a kids apron from Woolworths for £2 so far. I'm going to get a cheap set of wooden utensils and mark his initial on the handles with some heated metal and also a big cheap plastic mixing bowl to put it all in. You could even print off a couple of biscuit recipes to include too.

Might seem a strange present for a 4yr old but he is obsessed with cooking! I thought the present was a bargain but looks like I've spent more and put more thought into it than buying a toy off the shelf (he has far too many toys!)

    Hope you find something suitable!
