Advice on changing my first name legally

There isn't any need to do anything formally, you can simply inform people you are now known as 'New Name'. If you get a change of name deed or deed poll then send a certified copy with a covering letter asking the organisation to update their records.
Most will then return the copy deed to you, so you will know when they have done it. It shouldn't take long. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -

I am changing my name. I am keeping my surname and making my first name as my middle name and choosing a new first name, I will need a deed poll in order to do this for documents, etc.
I know that my family will more than likely always just call me James but professionally and to people whom I meet for the first time I want to introduce myself as the name I want to be known as in the future.
When I send my deed poll off to the various different places that will update my information, is it necessary to also write a letter?
Has anyone on this forum changed their name by deed poll? If so, how long did it take for the hospital, dentist, etc, to update your record?
Thanks.0 -

I went in to my doctors, dentists, chemist, dd school, and changed my name whilst at the desk (no paperwork).
I made an appointment at the bank, again no paperwork, and it was changed the and then.
For bills I just called up. But when I moved in I just called up too and never been asked to prove who I am - either the first time I move somewhere, or when I changed my name.
I emailed HR at work and they changed name so it was on my next payslip - they have actually spelt it wrong but I've never collected them.....
I made a face to face passport appointment. I took some bills, my bank book - no paperwork - all was changed within 4 hrs I think it was.
I haven't changed one bank account or my driving license, purely as I was too keep them in previous name.
I have had to do a full disclosure and just listed all my 'known by' first names.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0
