Android - football 'not available' in my location

I have an Xiaomi Mi A1 phone running Android v8 (Oreo). It's a great phone, but I have one minor niggle. I wanted to watch a bit of the FA Cup game on the BBC website recently but it said not available in my location. Ditto when I tried to watch highlights on the Sky website tonight. I am in the UK so it should be fine, and other apps like BBC news and weather, Google and Google maps etc seem to know I am in the UK. Any ideas how to resolve this?

Are there any proxys setup within the APN settings?

As ISPs are blocking some football sources .

Location is switched on, with high accuracy selected. At app level it is enabled for several apps including Google and Chrome.

No, the live BBC cup game was a Sunday afternoon and Sky highlights last night.
