Nationwide Mortgage, Natwest or HSBC!

Help,
I'm stuck...I'm a natwest customer, my partner is with HSBC but I've read lots of negative reviews on getting mortgages from both banks.

I earn 48k, my partner 24k
We've had an offer accepted on a property of £304k and have a deposit to put down of £179k

Looking for a mortgage of £125k so it's in the affordability zone fine.

I have debts of £13k spread across two credit cards and a loan - I've recently paid off £8k (racked up with house improvements, my mothers funeral costs etc)

Credit rating is good and my partners is excellent.

Ideally I'm looking for the quickest least difficult mortgage, the best rates are with Natwest or HSBC but I am concerned with the nightmare stories of underwriting taking ages, picky decisions. Nationwide seem to be less of a stress.

Any opinions between Nationwide/HSBC/Natwest?

My mortgage is with Nationwide. I've always found them to be very helpful and efficient. I have no complaints.

But no lender is perfect and I'm sure others will be along with alternative opinions.

Thanks, did you arrange your mortgage through a broker or did you sort it yourself?

Thanks, I might look into that then and see how easy it is and maybe save the mortgage broker fees!

We had a simple time with Natwest. We did it ourselves. One appointment and an approval subject to valuation within a few days. Like you we had a good deposit (47% LTV) but no debts at all. We were less than twice our joined annual salaries too and credit records fine. Because we both banked with them they had all our info and we didn't need to provide statements etc which made the application easier. No complaints from us as we got our house which we love!

I have found Natwest to be very efficient and problem free. We went via a broker.

We're with West Bromwich BS and have not had any problems at all.

We went with a fee free broker, recommended by a colleague of the OH, who was worth his weight in gold - it was a complicated purchase (survey issues) especially for us FTBers. He got his money from commission on the mortgage, so don't worry that a broker is going to cost you a fortune. He's also already stated that he's happy to help us with the remortgage when it comes up next year, so that's a weight off our minds.
