garage sold ppi

I recently found out I had ppi on an old car finance loan, from a local garage, it was under a company called singer friedlander, who have over the years been taken over by other companies, anyhow, i managed to track down shawbrook bank as the lender, i have contacted them and they have replied saying they did finance the credit but thats all, they say i need to contact the garage for the ppi? Firstly I dont understand how a garage can sell ppi, who would meet the repayments if you claimed, and secondlythe garage are no longer in business and havent been for many years.

Is this right, or are they trying to get out of their responsibility?

Thank you in advance for any help or advice

Car dealers are responsible. They sold you the finance. They sold you the PPI. You complain to the seller. not the lender.

If you bought before 14th Jan 2005, then you have no-one to complain to you. (you dont get access to the FSCS and you say the dealer no longer exists). If you bought after that date and the dealer no longer exists, you can complain to the FSCS.
