No space for tall fridge/freezer

We're moving into a lovely house, we just put an offer on and it was accepted. It's in a beautiful area, with a lovely little yard/garden and log burner. The only issue is the kitchen, which isn't very big...there are three gaps under the worktops for a washing machine, fridge and freezer. So we'll be relying on an under counter fridge and freezer, whereas now we have a tall American style one.

Does anyone else manage with an under the counter fridge and freezer? I'm expecting my first baby.

We're in a similar situation - due to the layout of the kitchen a tall fridge/freezer won't fit. Sure, we could re-design things and move things around ... but for us, a far simpler solution was to stick a big fridge and a chest freezer in the garage, then decant stuff from there into the under-counter units in the kitchen as and when. Not sure if this would be an option for you ?


I've read lots of stuff over the years saying that fridges and freezers shouldn't be put in garages. We bought ours second-hand over ten years ago, and we've not had a problem so far. Saying that, the garage never gets freezing cold or excessively damp.


But maybe an option to consider ?

Unfortunately we don't have a garage of anywhere else to store one. So we'll have to manage with the under counters for now until/if we decide to extend the kitchen or do building work which won't be for a while. I know it's a silly thing to worry about as we managed fine with an under counter fridge and freezer when growing up and in our teen years.

However I'm concerned as we've got used to the luxury of having a tall one.

Can anyone recommend a good one for each? We want to get decent sized ones with good capacity and not too expensive.

Fridges & freezers are fine in the garage, cheap basic fridge/freezers are not.

The only make of freezer we can put in our garage is a Beko as they work in temperatures down to -15 degrees which is what we get most winters now.

Many of the holiday cottages we've used have undercounter fridges and I find them a real pain after being used to a big tall fridge.

There's nothing we can do straight away so we'll have to deal with it.

We have looked into a little on the counter fridge for over flow as they have them for £75-£80.

There are 5 in our house hold and we manage fine with under counter fridge and freezer. Try and get 60cm wide to maximise space and don!!!8217;t get a frost free freezer as the capacity will be smaller.
It works for us with the added bonus of extra counter space, it really does make a small kitchen look bigger. Im not sure why people feel the need to have massive fridge freezers unless perhaps we f you live in the middle of nowhere and can!!!8217;t get to the shops.

Is the space above where the fridge goes clear of obstructions? If so a joiner might be able to cut short the worktop and brace the remaining top so you could fit your existing tall fridge/freezer in?
