Ex won’t leave joint account

Why not just stop using it?I still have a joint account with my ex. When I have asked for him to come into branch to sign to remove his name he just ignores my messages.
He never has, nor do I think he will take any money. I am the only one who pays into it, and all the bills are mine so he has no claim (as I understood).
I just want to get rid of any connection. Especially where his name is showing on my credit history etc.
Do I have any legal standing? The Halifax insists we both need to be in branch to sign.
Assuming it has no credit facility it will become dormant0 -
Stop using it. It is a joint account - he can legally take every penny in there, the fact that he hasn't put anything into it is irrelevant.0

I would follow Pollycat's suggestion: new account, transfer all activity, and leave nothing in the joint account. I'd then ask to have your name removed from the joint account, leaving it your ex's name only. Will your bank agree to this?0

I would open a new account in just your name and ask to be taken off the joint one.
When I divorced my ex, that's what I did. I didn't want to pay into an account he had access to, and I'm sure he felt the same!0 -
As others have suggested, open a new account in your name only and pay all future income and standing orders from the single named account. Also transfer all the money from the joint account into your own name. I would then write formally to the bank so you have a written record, and tell the bank to treat it as an account in dispute.
This is important because there is nothing to stop your ex, if he wanted to be difficult to start drawing money from the account and putting it into a massive overdraft situation for which you would be responsible if it is still in joint name.0 -
Ditto the above - much easier way to deal with things! If Halifax will not remove your ex then look to move yourself instead.
Setup your own sole bank account elsewhere (or another with Halifax) - make sure you move all your DDs over, tell your friends/family your new bank details - especially your Employer for payroll!
Then once you're happy, go back to Halifax and ask to be removed yourself - leaving the account in just your ex's name with £0 in it.0 -
I used to work for them , they won’t remove a name without BOTH signatures however either party can close the account.
My advice is open an account in your own name , move all your credits and payments over and finally close the account ( don’t over complicate things by mentioning why)
I’ve seen so much trouble caused over the years by situations like this - honestly it’s so much better to sort things out.0
