Applying For Rented House While In Overdraft

Hello,

Me and my girlfriend have been accepted to go forward with and application for house.

The letting agent wants to see 3 months payslips/bank statements and ID.

I’m currently in my overdraft quite far. £700 out of £800

I have been in the quite a while due to my ex partner would this go against me when they ask to see the bank statements?

    I wouldn't dream of showing them bank statements personally.


    I couldn't say either way to be honest. - possibly.

    Depends entirely on the landlord/agent: There are no "rules" about this...

    As long as your annual joint income is more than 30x rent you may well be fine.

    You could always ask to see agent's bank statements for last 3 months... (watch their face when you ask....). If it's OK for them to ask to see yours, why on earth could they object the other way round.

    Best ever tenants I ever had had as their complete checking process a neighbour saying to me "Mr Artful they very nice people" - and they were!

    PS If they want to see bank statements and you refuse to show them I doubt very much this is going any further...

    I would never refuse to show them! If they want to see them the can there’s no issues as I really want the property just wanted to know if it would go against me?

    Personally I'd refuse to deal with any letting agent that asked for such a thing and look for a different property.

    Payslips, fair enough. Bank statements, not a chance.
  • I submitted mine however i drew a black line through each transaction and balance line as I don't see why i should show that
    I think they are intended to prove proof of residence and are more of an ID check
    Either way , they never asked for them without the lines being hidden

    Aside from whether you wish to show your statements or not I'm not convinced that it should be a detrimental thing to be using an agreed overdraft facility.

    As long as you are not exceeding the overdraft limit set then what is wrong with an agreed overdraft limit.
    It's been pre organised with your bank and is presumably reviewed at set intervals and within the guidelines that they stipulated when authorising.and presumably repayable by a certain date or at least reducing.

    Although as others have said I would consider it none of the LA's business how you spend your money so the statement is not a pre set requirement,only that you can afford the property which can be determined my a salary calculator.
