Travel insurance to cover missed uk flight

We have just returned from a holiday on the Scilly Isles.
Our flight from Scilly to Newquay was cancelled due to the weather ( first snow in 20 years) which meant we missed our connection for Newquay /Manchester and Manchester to Edinburgh.
Skybus who fly to and from Scilly are not signed up to the scheme to pay compensation but we were able to take out travel insurance specific to journeys to and from Scilly.0
