How long to get the 2nd Home Stamp Duty Refund Ple

As my current property won't have enough sold before my new house completed we are paying out the second home stamp duty. It's likely to have the sale completed two months later so as soon as this is done I can make a claim for the refund.

Anyone who has done this recently, can they confirm rough timescales it takes for HMRC to refund.

since you could afford to pay it in the first place, why are you so bothered by a few days for the refund?

Thank you, actually we can't! Our parents are lending us the additional stamp duty, knowing my house sale is going through!

I did see this info, I just wondered if anyone has any recent experience and if the 'processing' in 15 days actually translates into receiving the refund in the same time.

I've just applied for a refund as we sold the original property... wondering how long it's taken for HMRC to acknowledge application and how long to pay out!

Do I need to chase them?

Hi, just wondered if you could let me know how long it took please? HRMC claim its 15 days after applying but I read some articles that claimed they were very behind.

15 WORKING days, so 3 weeks at least and that is just an 'Aim' HMRC aspire to so could be longer

I applied for a refund via the online form on 13 September. Received the cheque yesterday, 3 October, so around 14 working days. When I submitted the form HMRC said I could expect a response within 35 days - a case of under promise/over deliver perhaps.

I posted my hard copy form on the 21st September and received confirmation of delivery from Royal Mail on the 22nd. So let's assume that the target of 15 working days started on Monday 24th September. I'll endeavour to update the thread with any news.

From other threads and news stories I have read on the subject, the processing time seems to vary at different times of the year. I can only speculate as to whether this is due to fluctuations in housing market activity, availibility of staff at HMRC, or some other factors. Some people have noted that responses are slower when HMRC is busy with tax returns, but that may be coincidence.

Well - that didn't take long. Went home to walk the dog at lunchtime and found a letter from HMRC on the doorstep with a cheque in it. That's only 10 working days from sending the form .

I submitted online via the government gateway last Saturday and hasn't received any receipt and it hasn't come up in 'My account' with HMRC. Could you please let me know whether I supposed to get a receipt and when it comes up in 'My account'
