Chances of being accepted with RBS

My self and my partner are first time buyers and both bank with RBS. About a year ago we had a chat with one of their mortgage advisors in branch who gave us an Agreement in principle up to £209k.
As we then got engaged we stopped home hunting and focused on the wedding, but now we are back on the look for a property
I couldn't find the original AIP letter so went online and got another AIP from their website, again up to 209k.
My credit score is far from perfect and i have a 5 year old default on my Experian (doesn't show on Equifax)
What I'd like to know is that by having an AIP from them does that mean I stand a good chance of an actual application being accepted, or should I not get my hopes up. The reason I'm so worried is that RBS wouldn't even give me a credit card to transfer by Barclaycard balance to.
The woman in the branch seemed to think it should be OK and told me that we should still be OK because credit cards and overdrafts are searched agains Equifax and Experian but Mortgages are Equifax only. Couple that with the fact they could repossess the house she was quite confident it would go through.
Has anyone else been in a similar position and how did it work out?

Rolling 0% interest balances between lenders has come under increasing regulatory scrutiny. Some banks have already started to change their internal policies.0
