Eon has left us with no electricity!!

To cut a very long story short...

We’re on a prepay key thing for our electricity. Which we top up every Friday ( we normally still have some left) so leave it in the key.
Anyway the storm hit and we didn’t expect it to get too bad! Boy we’re we wrong. So we get in car to get essentials before it gets too bad and it’s 6 miles to the local shop.
Car won’t start :(
No panic.. we can do without bread etc
But then the electricity starts beeping and everything cuts off!!!
We can use key to put money on and error!! After several attempts it allows us to use emergency, and call round local villages to see if anyone can help as our car is broke!
No luck and with two babies in the house and not much electric left to run boiler etc we panic!
An hour on hold to Eon, get cut off. No reply on Facebook or twitter help accounts. Another hour on hold and get through!
They said they can’t top up our box remotely and they will send an engineer within 3 hours to sort it out!
4 hours later, it’s pitch black, and we don’t have enough electricity to keep the heating running in an old bungalow, or anything else :(
Which means my children are going to be froze and I can’t get hold of Eon!
We won’t have electric for baby monitors, heating, lights etc
How could Eon do this???? Can they leave a family with no electricity, heating??? In this weather?
Is there emergency I can contact?

You do realise that there are areas of the UK that have been without power since before lunchtime?

I would think the priority would be to restore power to as many people as possible. One household with a problem is not high on their list at least the moment

Get yourselves and children to bed with extra blankets etc. It's how people used to manage before.

It's not really Eon's fault that you let it run out - it's been significantly colder this past week or so meaning that you've used more energy than usual.

Ranting on at Eon because you didn't anticipate that you'd use extra and didn't do something about it and the fact that your car wouldn't start isn't their fault either. It's you that's left you without electricity.

It may be an emegency in your opinion, but it's not a fault requiring the flying squad to come out to do a repair but an omission on your part requiring you to get out and top it.

A night without leccy isn't a disaster, wrap up warm and snuggle up in bed and sort it out tomorrow. There'll be loads of people who'll be without power for several days because of genuine faults caused by the weather and IMO they should take priority
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

If you are really worried about your children get your family into one of the emergency accommodation centres.

Sorry for your situation but if you go off supply OFGEM does not require the supply to come out that night.
You say you normally have some money left on meter by Friday, this bad weather has been predicted all week but you chose to leave it until the last minute before topping up for meter. That has to be a very silly desicion which has now left in without power.

If your car won't start, plug in a charger and charge the battery. Oh hang n a minute. Ask your neighbour if you can plug into their house to charge the battery.
