hi there,
does anyone know if you can replace (or get thicker) that black seal trim stuff around the windows? the things that the window frame closes onto to stop drafts etc? not the bit that's on the glass, the stuff on the white upvc frame things that the opening / closing window sits onto?
i think if i can do that it'll stop my very cold drafts (for now) as i cant replace the window.
or does anyone have any ideas i can use to temp 'fix' tissue doesn't seem to stay in the gap? would a pic help?
many thanks

Yes Screwfix (or toolstation) or even b and q do all sorts of draught excluder. It might be a different colour than black but just slap it on anyway so it’s a nice tight fit. It will make a huge difference. :cool:0

You get different dart sizes (the bit that clips into the frame), take a small cuting from your window when you go to buy it and compare it with what you're buying. If there's a big difference between the two find one that's closer to what you have, too large and it'll take forever to try and force it in, too small and it'll fall back out0

@SatanicHare - I'm unsure if this window ever shut correctly, so unsure if replacing with the same or correct size will fix the issue? The left and left top let in a draft, and a little on the bottom right too.
So does the strip basically just pull out? Can I get one with the right "foot" size but is fatter to create a better seal? It's an upstairs window which I can't get a ladder to so will need to do from the inside.
Worst case I'll stick some of the excluder to the side of the current stuff.
The joys of buying a new home.
Thanks again- Chez0 -
Yeah you can get thicker seals with the same dart (foot) not all seals pull out easily, a lot of the newer window profiles have the seals bonded to them to prevent the seals shrinking. One thing to consider though, quite often it's the hinges that are faulty. If you have the same windows elsewhere in the house they would be draughty too if the seal was inadequate. If the draught is strongest at the opposite side from the lock then fit new hinges first as it's more likely to fix the problem0
