Santander block my account

Am at my wits end as Santander have blocked my account and initially wouldn’t tell me what to do to try and resolve it and more importantly wouldn’t allow me to access my salaries or pay my rent.
I’ve since discovered that they are reviewing my account due to an unusually high number of claims under the Direct Debit indemnity scheme. Granted there have been a number of them over the 7 years that the account has been opened but there were never any consequences ie I wasn’t sued or anything and as far as I know no impact on Santander.
The last time I made one was in May 2017, I complained about them saying that they would no longer allow me to use the indemnity and their response was that in future I would have to use the back office system
This week Royal Sun Alliance took out a payment in error and I called Santander and asked them to return it on the day that it was claimed. They advised that they couldn’t do an indemnity due to a system error but would put it through the back office which I assume they - they texted and advised that they had sorted it.
Thought all was fine and then found out that the account was blocked with no access to funds or account
Anyone help with any advice or help as to what to do - at my wits end

Sounds like they no longer want your custom. On what basis are you using (abusing?) the DD scheme.

Of course there's an impact. The reclaim process has to be paid for.
  • I’m not and until this week hadn’t put a claim in under the DD indemnity process at all since May 2017

I've had bank accounts for nearly 50 years but never had to query a direct debit. You say "there have been a few over the 7 years" you have held the account, care to elaborate?
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

But the majority of people never have to use the scheme so what is it you are doing that means you have had to use it so often?

Forgetting to cancel policies and then claiming back through the scheme perhaps?

Maybe if a DD gets the OP overdrawn, s/he will use the refund scheme to avoid the bank charging for being overdrawn.
