Hugely in credit

So I'm currently paying £30p/m & recently got my energy bill sent to me covering the last few months, so I gave them meter readings and this left me with £70-£80 in credit, over 2 months worth extra. I requested to lower my direct debit payment but they refused to change it until I give them regular monthly meter readings.
Can I cancel my direct debit now so the bills eat into my credit instead and reattached a direct debit a few months later once giving them the readings? I'd rather not continue paying more than I should for another few months and eventually be so much in credit, and possibly just reduce my direct debit to the actual monthly usage.

Supplier is Solarpilicty.

Thanks,

    Thanks,

You need to read your contract terms and conditions. Cancelling a DD mandate can have contractual implications. It is still Winter and 2 months credit is not much headroom for a Winter bill.

Edit: from their tes and cs

Cancel your DD by all means but don't be surprised if it messes up your credit rating; missed payments on anything but especially essential bills are frowned upon. As Hengus said, £70-80 is nothing in this weather. The time to ask for a refund or a lower DD amount is when we are well and truly into Spring and usage is only going to go down.

If you are on a fixed contract then by cancelling your DD you will have broken the terms and you could well end up being transferred to their Standard Variable Tariff.

£30/month is very low - hopefully that not all based on estimates - can you let us know your actual consumption in kwh for the last 12 months please
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

How about asking for the extra amount (minus one month's payment) to be refunded?

Treat yourself or stick it in the bank...

Then give reading once a month, regardless of receiving a quarterly bill, till you can reduce the payments.
