Just thought I'd state the obvious.

My gas usage since Christmas has been between 60 to 70 kWh a day.

The last 2 days it has been 101 kWh a day

And that is with nothing altered, everything still the same settings.
over 73 but not over the hill.

Your boiler will be working harder to keep your home warmer as it will be loosing some heat via walls, roof etc

we are all electric and managed to get through 65kwh yesterday, so yes the colder it is the more energy you'll use to keep the place warm. We average about 35kwh a day at this time of the year
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

Don't forget the colder the outside temperature, the colder the ground, so the colder the water pipes are so more gas is required to heat the water to the same temperature. Think how much warmer your cold water is in summer than in winter, let alone in these Siberian conditions.

The heating stuff has already been covered but yes, your boiler has its work cut out so needs more fuel to do the same job.

Shock & surprise - it's colder outside so it takes more to stay warm inside. I am ignoring my meters for the duration. To someone in charge of the weather, can we please have a heat wave for a couple of days so that I don't have a hissy fit when I do my monthly meter read in a fortnight?

I think it is the wind that makes all the difference though. Even the year we had minus 10 it never seemed to go as cold indoors as it has been the last few days at minus 1 or 2.

Watch out for condensation on your water pipes if they are not properly lagged*, although indoor humidity appears to drop when it snows/freezes outside.

*Mine it appears aren't & am awaiting my plumber to move them so there is room to get lagging around them.
