Survey missed an issue - can I get compensation?

I bought my house nearly 4 years ago but have now found a problem that should have been picked up as part of the survey.
I have recently had an extension and the builder pointed out that we have damp in our walls as the air vents one the brink work have been covered by the previous owners. The builder has also pointed out that our roof tiles do not over lap the wall enough.
When we bought the house, we had a home buyers survey conducted and I would have thought this would have noted the issues as they are visible ones to trained eyes.
Do I have a case to complain? My builder has advised it could be £15k/£20k cost!

After 4 years? Don't you have eyes? Why is the default position of a certain generation always to blame anyone but themselves?0

Homebuyers reports are done in under 25 minutes quite often and is basically someones opinion from taking a look. If you want more detail you need a full structural survey and even then 4 years down the line you may struggle to prove anything.

Have you even read your survey? If you had, you would have noticed that it is filled with so many caveats and @rse covering statements that it's impossible to rely on for the purposes of compensation the day you received it, let alone 4 years later.

No you can't get any compensation. You own the property now so you pay for any defects. You have owned the property for 4 years during that time you could have done the repairs needed to prevent damp in the walls or whatever else has happened in that time.0

In fairness it might not be that the quote is really high, it might be that OP doesnt understand what the builder has said needs doing.0
