Wow you guys are good. Thank you very much.

    I've now done the following:

    Updated my java
Fixed the hijackthis things that Browntoa said to fix.
Removed ISM (which was called Internet Speed Monitor in the list) which removed the other files from my C drive so I didn't need to delete them myself.

    My questions now are:
Do I still need to run the program in reluctant_spender's 2nd post?
Is there any way to set my java to keep itself up to date automatically?
Is there any way of checking that everything's all clean and lovely now?

    Thanks again guys.

see if you still get pop ups as before

it won't do any harm to run reluctants software, but I think it was ISM that was the problem

  • Dr Web Cure it is a standalone anti virus product that is also good at detecting and removing trojans. This will help to check your machine.

I would also visit a online anti virus scanner like Kaspersky or Nod32.

ON the update front this is a very good website - Calendar of updates
