  • I hadn't thought of that. Were the CIS your father's insurer?

And did you deal with them directly? Difficult to do nowadays when the quote procedure involves a website with no way of discussing 'off piste' requirements.

They were my insurer and my fathers, it was back in the days when the CIS man used to come round to the house.
  • Yeah - panic over. I can tax at a post office without the V5C. I think. I can't pay it by DD - but it's a low tax band anyway.

    Slightly, perhaps

The car was still insured between October and January. It has been on the road and uninsured since my wife died in January.

This is the problem I'm trying to solve. I...just hadn't got around to worrying about it. But what's done is done. The insurance will be sorted tomorrow, when I insure it on the basis that my children agree to sell it to me. Which they can - even before confirmation.

I'm now thinking much of it has been a bit of a non-problem - barring the outstanding tax issue and not knowing where my wife put the V5C.
Thank you. Sorry I misunderstood. As far as I know the insurance would have lapsed upon death so it was uninsured since then. If the car is sold to you before you tax it then legally you are not liable for the back tax but the DVLA may try and make you pay. Hope you get it sorted.
