HSBC allowing a payment to be released query

Last year I entered a ballot for World Cup tickets, when the results of the ballot came through, the Fifa pages stated if they could not claim the money, then the ticket entry would be forfeited. Which was fair enough, come the results, I was lucky enough to be allocated the tickets, but did not have the funds in the bank.
HSBC thus allowed the payment, putting me into an overdraft without my permission, thus causing me to transfer savings into my account to get myself back into credit. I complained and was told they were saving me from embarrassment, which I could accept if this was a utility bill for example, but they could see who was trying to charge, also this has resulted in them charging with for foreign transactions, have I got any comeback on this?

None at all. To see and understand why, refer to your account T&Cs, specifically the bit on informal overdraft requests.0

When last year did you enter this ballot?
If it was this one http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/y=2017/m=12/news=2018-fifa-world-cup-tickets-sales-resume-on-5-december-2922624.html then theyre well within the 6 month period before an authorisation expires.
Youre just going to take it on the chin.
Although they should have just been honest with you and said that if the retailer claims the funds within 6 months of the transaction date they cant refuse. Telling you its to avoid embarrassment is silly.

Do you have a link to it? Or an email confirming you entered it?
