Well, my kids are grown up now, so I don't go to Toys'R''Us anymore, but even when I was looking for toys it was never my 1st choice.

With Maplin it amazes me that they have stayed in business so long; their staff were generally clueless (and arrogant) and their prices too high; just last week I wanted a USB disk enclosure and saved 40% by going next door to Currys!

Maplin are also one of those shops who you ask for things and they advise you to try online, to which I respond: "Yes, I know I could just go online, but I've come to the shop because I want to buy something today, now.".

So, as far as Maplin goes, I am not at all surprised.

As for the High Street, I am off out today to look for some shoes and maybe a coat; for the pleasure, I will sit in traffic and pay exorbitant parking charges. I might have lunch out, whilst I'm there, though.

Try Barratts for your shoes and Peacocks for your coat :D (if they haven't already folded?

Others that I think might have folded or be close to folding are:
Clinton Cards (their subsidiary iCandy has defo gone)
    Dreams Bed Store
    Habitat
    HMV

    Think these have already folded?
    Blockbuster
    Woolworths
    Comet
    Land of Leather
    Borders book shop
    JJB sports
    Zavvi
    MFI
    Jessops
    Julian Graves
    Focus DIY
    Threshers
