Moving email hosting from one provider to another

Hi email hosting experts. A neighbour has email address and hosting with Clara and says its very expensive (price per GB) and spam filter is non-existant (perhaps they provide one free of charge and he just hasn't set it up...).
Question. In laymans terms how would he move the email hosting to another provider (e.g. Google whether business account or not). Cheers.

If its an "xxxxx@clara.co.uk" then quite simply he can't, the best he can do is have Google retrieve the emails from Clara and display them in his Gmail inbox. If its a "me@mydomain.co.uk" where he registered his own domain and Clara just run the hosting servers its a fairly simple process. This is a good guide:

For your domain name you need to update your MX record to point to new Email hosting provider , this can be done via your domain registrar DNS manager or at you web hosting provider end and change the MX record to point to new one.

Thanks - will be doing this tomorrow. Next question. Just changing the MX record doesn't affect web site hosting does it?

The MX record is just for receiving email. You need to have a service set up elsewhere to use this, you can't just point your MX records to Google (unless you have paid for their GSuite package) for example
