Car insurance claim help!!!
Hi all,
1st post here, looking for some help/advice.
My husband who is a named driver has recently been involved in a claim on my car insurance policy. It looks like due to the damage my insurance company Aviva are going to write off my car
although car is still drivable it’s pretty damaged and would need a full new driver side door and I guess they think it’s not economical to repair. They have been in contacted and advised of the settlement figure etc.. but I have just realised that I have forgot to update the registered keeper. It was previously a lease car which they where fully aware off but, later last year I myself became the cars legal owner it just totally slipped my mind to update them I have always been the registered keeper and it’s registered to my address so they have this correct I’m now just worried when I tell them the registered keep has changed to me and not the lease company that this could affect my claim? Or invalidate it
it was a genuine mistake and I didn’t do it for any costs resons or that. I mean I’m over 50 so it’s not like I’m a young driver trying to bring costs down or anything! Can anyone help? Does anyone know what will happen when I advise them of this?

There seems to be a contradiction there.
I'm assuming you mean the leasing company were previously the RK, and you've now changed that to yourself.
I think the insurer would be unlikely to try to use that to challenge the claim, but there are insurance experts on the forum who will be able to confirm that.0 -
I'm surprised the lease company allowed you to buy the car, but going from a third party RK to you, the policyholder, makes life simpler for the insurer, so I can't see there being an issue.
If it's that new a car as to be off lease fairly recently, I doubt it'll get written off for a door.0 -
Yes that!!!8217;s what I meant. I knew lease company owner personally hence why I was able to then keep car and not re-lease had car for few years then now but only recently took ownership towards the end of last year. It!!!8217;s a 13 plate car so not exactly new. I just don!!!8217;t want it to cause any issues or anything in anyway in regards to claim or any settlement payout I will be due. I!!!8217;ve never been in this situation in regards to a car being written off in all my 20 years of driving so unsure how it all works. Thanks for reply!!!8217;s.0

You are the policy holder, you have been paying the premiums, however, if you were not technically the registered keeper at the time you took out the policy, it may be invalidated, as the insurer may have issued different policy conditions.
Additionally, they may not have allowed anyone else to drive the car.0
