I started a new job at the beginning of January with a company car and it's the first company car I've had. Do I need to inform the inland revenue of anything or does my employer do that?

  • Your employer should do so.

As above and you can expect a P11D after the end of the tax year which will outline to you the extent of your liabilities based on "benefit in kind" i.e. the personal use of a company vehicle.
  • From experience call HMRC yourself now. Your company has up to 12 months to inform HMRC. I relied on my company to inform HMRC, which they did 8 months later and I had a tax bill for £500!!!

When I spoke with HMRC the advised me to always call them as soon as possible and not wait on your company to do it.

Try googling it, I think you can do it on line now as well

p.s - you can notify HMRC online as well, so long as you're not too busy :)
