To sell for 1p....but my profit....£15.00...?

Firstly I do not do this anymore, but you can make some money....!

I use to be able to regularly get hold of old amplifiers, stereos, chairs and similar items, the main problem with selling this type of item was the cost of postage.....

In most cases the items were not worth selling...only any use as spares/repairs,so as an actual value £3-£10.....

but.....

I found that listing these low value items at 1p they would sell.

how to make a profit.....

There was and still are many cheap courier services, where if your items do not reach certain size and weight demensions you can post these items for less than £5.00.

So you state in your auction advert that the item is heavy, you give the buyer the option of...

Royal Mail (Example £24.99)

or

courier service (Example £19.99)

with the latter always being cheaper than RM.(hope they choose the courier option)

Then 'you' use the courier service, but 'you' are only paying £4.99.

Guess what...profit less fees and time @ £15.00

YOU CAN REALLY OFFER A GREAT REFUND POLICY TOO, AS REMEMBER YOUR BUYER HAS ONLY PAID 1p plus postage ......200% money back ( no refund on postage costs @ 2p ! )

I once did this with a pair of chairs and charged £24.99 per chair, this cost me £9.98 to post, but gave me a great £40.00 postal profit !

Whether this is right or wrong I was not bothered ,as the buyer was paying peanuts for the item and I gave them a genuine postal option.

Thankyou to Royal Mail for being so expensive,I could not have done it without them !

Remember,I do not do this now.

I assume that using the far East model which gets accounts suspended and makes buyers unhappy is a tongue in cheek suggestion?

Quite the opposite,I had never had a complaint, suggestions of overcharging only complements on time of delivery, product, and service.

At the end of the day, this is all about choice....

If you are happy to complete a transaction knowing all the facts in black and white, with a refund to back it up (less postage costs) then you can not ask for much else.

Is it not better to be aware of ALL costs, than to buy the item at whatever cost--THEN-- find out your postage is higher than normal ???

Although what I offered actually worked out cheaper than the usual method of using the post office !

By using this method,I also avoided the additional cost of higher listing/completion fees.

    Thankyou for asking.

This is how the 1p books work on Amazon.

    Seems logical to me.

I have been having a clear out out of customer returns (faulty) from a year ago and was going to bin them but thought I'd stick one up on EBay at 99p start and £14.99 BIN it sold within hours. Just sold my second one at £16.99 and that also went within hours, to the same buyer.

I have emailed him suggesting he contacts me as I have a few more, but he hasn't bothered. Guess the next one will be going on at £19.99 this weekend.

Not bad for stuff that was going in the bin.

exactly,it is all there in black and white, you didnt mislead anyone,so i dont see what the problem is.
if ebay choose to suspend you then thats up to them, why pay high fees if you dont need to?
the buyer has what they want and you have what you want.perfect.

    I dont at all.

Fairplay to ya bukup if people are going to click and buy it then they obviously see it as a just expense so i dont see what the problem is either.

it seems obvious that people look at the total price they pay.

whats being proposed is fee avoidance under ebay T&C's

great while it works but get a few listings removed and end up losing your account/feedback

if you end up in a refund situation its can get sticky when the postage cost/goods are disproportionate in claims

As long as you show your refund policy, answer any questions honestly, describe your goods truthfully then there shouldn't be any problems.Ebay would side with the seller if there was a disagreement regarding refunds-so long as you've stated that postage costs are not included.

As to avoiding Ebay fees, then yes,if I can avoid paying top dollar I would and still do.....if you have a problem with that then tough sh*t ...!

Ebay don't get involved in refunds regardless of what seller terms and conditions say you either refund or you don't it makes no difference to ebay.

However paypal do take refunds seriously and if it goes to a dispute for item not as described or loss in post then the seller must refund the amount in full including post and packing.
