SAP -when does 28 weeks run from and to

Hi Hi does anyone know if the 28 week payment limit for SSP is in anyone tax year or cumulative i.e it runs from day 1 of eligibility and last day of 28th week whether they run over 1 tax year or 2... I stopped being paid sick leave by my employer in 2016 as they said I had had too much time off. Since then I have had what equates to 34.2 weeks SSP.
If the 28 week limit is cumukative and not per tax year- Can the employer ask for 4.2 weeks back? Take it from next pay or do I owe it to HMRC.
Many thanks for any help :rotfl:

Apologies I meant SSP0

SSP is paid for a maximum of 28 weeks, any period back at work after being on SSP that is less than 8 weeks links to the previous SSP claim.
So say 12 weeks on SSP, back at work 6 weeks, fall sick again this SSP period links to the previous claim so this new period of sickness becomes week 13 on SSP, back to work after 16 weeks for 9 weeks, then fall sick again this is a new SSP period as over 8 weeks at work so 28 weeks SSP due.0 -
Thanks Bigbill
Do you know if the linked episodes only apply in one tax year or across years ...0 -
The linking rule would run over various years, SSP is based on your previous earnings not on anything to do with years etc.0
