Currys Fridge Freezer fault

Options
After a bit of advice

I purchased a fridge freezer from Currys on the 1st February (delivered 3rd February), today I find that the freezer compartment isn't working and the food is all defrosted. I have checked all connections.

Before I call Currys I wanted to check out my consumer rights. I believe that as the fridge freezer is less than 30 days old I have a right to reject the goods and ask for a full refund, however on Currys website their terms and conditions state "We will offer either a repair, exchange or refund if the fault occurs within 30 days of purchase". As the fridge freezer is so new I am not confident that even with a repair I won't have problems in the future.

Am I right in thinking that I can insist on a refund and if so what should I do if Currys refuse.

Thank you for your help

  • They can offer a repair. They don't have to refund you.

If, after such a repair, problems continue you can then request a refund.

Not so, you are entitled to reject the goods for a full refund. If they refuse quote the Consumer Rights Act to them, they will probably still want so send someone out to inspect.

As the appliance was delivered less than 30 days ago, the OP has the short term right of rejection as granted under the Consumer rights act and can insist on a full refund rather than having the unit repaired.
Currys can ask the OP to prove that the fault is inherent but it's unlikely that they will do so.

Is this fridge/freezer situated in an unheated room. E.g. an outhouse or garage?

If so, and the f/f only has one thermostat, it is entirely possible that the thing is working as designed.
That is, if the ambient temperature is such that the fridge part needs no cooling then the temperature in the freezer part may well rise above that expected for a freezer.

    I stand corrected.
