Scottish Power failing to set my account up
Options
I moved into a new build flat 6 months ago and have tried countless times to set my account up with Scottish Power. They have said that my address is registered to an incorrect post code and although they have their meters installed and can find my usage using the serial numbers, they still cannot set up my account for me to start making payments.
I have no issues with my gas or electricity and have been told that as it is their issue, I cannot be charged for what I have used til now. Does anyone know if this is the case or can shed some light on what would happen in this case? Thanks in advance!

As long as you keep bugging them to set you up they will not be able to bill you for more than the past 12 months use, you will not get totally free power. Make sure you take regular readings and work out how much your use is likely to cost and put the money aside for when they eventually do sort it out. You have got the readings from when you moved in I hope. You either keep bugging them in the hope they take forever to get it sorted and apply the back billing rule when they eventually do or raise a formal written complaint which you then take to the ombudsman when they have not sorted it after 8 weeks, a rocket from them usually expedites a solution.0

As it's only been 6 months, they still have another 6 months in which to set you up with an account and issue a bill.
Once the 12 months have passed, then you can probably expect the free power for the past 12 months, though this is by no means guarranteed - it's only, I believe, a code of practice.
Keep on at them and set aside £100 in a savings account per month so that, if they do come back with a bill, you have something to pay it with.
Also, make sure you are not on their expensive standard tariff - email them or better still WRITE to them and ask to be put on their cheapest tariff.
In fact, I would WRITE a letter headed COMPLAINT in big bold letters asking why, after 6 months, they cannot give you an account despite the fact that they can find your meter(s) using the serial numbers.
Also include in the letter the date you moved in and your readings from when you moved in and the current readings and again reiterate your desire to be put on their cheapest tariff from the start.0 -
Thanks! I have a smart metre so hoping they can see my readings too. Find it so odd how they can’t set my account up when they actually have all of my details but I’ll just keep on at them!0

I have now received bills through the door addressed to the construction company who built the flats I am living in but registered to my address - along with 10 other bills for addresses both nearby and no where near me. So far I have only receive electricity bills totalling £4500 and I am expecting that this means the gas bills will be coming through my letter box soon. Does anyone know how I can go about fixing this issue !!!55357;!!!56849;?
I don!!!8217;t expect that Scottish power will be able to actually discuss the account with me as it!!!8217;s registered under the construction company name.0 -
Have you written, or did you write to them and open a complaint?0

I didn’t write to them as I was told that the construction company were in the process of sorting it and the landlords told me to wait til I hear from them as did Scottish power but I didn’t til the bills came through today0

Nope £4500, 10 of which are for other properties and majority start from before building even began never mind when the tenants moved in. Can’t wait to see what it jumps up to once the gas bills eventually come through too....0

Hi Duckegg22
I'm sorry you have been receiving these bills for the construction company.
If you could possibly email me at Social@scottishpower.com with the following information,
your MSE handle in the subject heading
your full address
your name and telephone number
and some details from the bills
I can have a look into this for you.
Kind Regards
