My thoughts exactly Warwick hunt. That's what paypal don't seem to under stand. If it was true and it was an unauthorised transaction and he didn't purchase phone well how is it he has returned it0

Unauthorised or not you received a gift payment which offers you no protection. They gifted you the money you didnt sell anything as far as paypal care.
Your lucky to have the phone back. You could have lost the money and the phone.
Also you buying the phone to resell makes you a business. If the phones blocked did your friend forget to pay the bill?
As it was a gift payment then you have nothing to lose except the gift amount. If you sell items your should send an invoice and receive the payment for goods and not a gift.
Trying to save a few pennies could have cost you far more.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
It never ceases to amaze me the number of people that sell high value items like mobiles through Ebay/PayPal.
I suspect as others have said he's damaged it.0 -
Unfortunately as you have discovered, Paypal Friends & Family doesn't offer you any seller protection. Normally you wouldn't need seller protection and a lot of people are under the misconception that F&F is risk free.
All PayPal payments can be subject to a chargeback. People confuse chargebacks and cases. Cases (not covered for either buyer or seller under F&F) are for NR (not received) and SNAD (significantly not as described). Chargebacks are a risk for any and every transaction. A normal payment* will have chargeback protection under Paypal's seller protection, but your payment was exempt all Paypal seller protection.
F&F don't offer buyers any protection either.
So how have you lost money? You've lost money because the buyer has gone back to their issuing card company and they have initiated a reversal on the grounds they didn't make the payment (fraud).
IMO the buyer was very lucky - card companies can be notoriously unhelpful when a payment has gone through Paypal.
*Normal payment - payment as per their rules for goods and or services.0 -

I didn't realise Paypal allowed someone to UNgift money.0 -
I originally bought the phone for myself. After using phone for a while I decided to sell as I needed a dual sim phone for my business so that's the only reason I sold it forgotmyna.
The guy definitely made a fraudulent claim to get his money back and I have the messages from start to finish showing it was him who bought the phone and it was authorised and paypal advisor even admitted they have probably been conned too but won't do nothing. I just want to know is there any thing I can do or just take the hit0
