Good work on the meal planning! I find I drink far more water when I'm working - I have a bottle on my desk and just keep swigging and refilling throughout the day. On days I'm not working I barely remember to drink any! I do drink a lot of tea though, and try to alternate with herbal teas - a good alternative for the winter.
At the minute I'm basically chain-sucking ice pops so that's probably doing for a good amount of my water intake 😂😂7 -
Thanks both, yes I am going to make a serious effort to continue drinking more water post-heatwave. Even taking my tendonitis into account, it is noticeable that my ankles aren't puffing up as much as they normally would in the heat. I'd always put that down to weight, standing for long periods in hot weather, my dodgy tendons not liking the heat......I'm now wondering if it's mainly been a case of my body holding onto water on hot days because of inadequate hydration.

Oh my days, it is SO HOT!! I'm sitting with a pint of water next to the fan just counting the hours until temperatures start slowly to fall away. Having learned where there was still significant heat ingress yesterday, when I did close the windows & curtains from about 8.30am, I put a few additional measures in place this morning. I cut up a cardboard box & taped a sheet of thick card over our landing window in lieu of a blackout blind, before closing the curtains on it. Also doubled up a tablecloth & fixed it over the pane of glass in the back door. At lunchtime, I popped through & felt the glass..It was very hot compared with the cloth, so I hope it's providing a little bit of an effect. Finally, I've rigged up a double thickness of fabric over the doorway from the conservatory as temperatures in there were unsurprisingly unbearable yesterday. Then I closed our thick kitchen door curtain to separate off the hotter rear of the house & retired to inner cave.
Well, defo an NSD as haven't been anywhere to get my purse out. I've finally finished that nice pair of slouchy hiking socks for Mr F (presents stash), finished my book & painted my toenails! Pathetic list of achievements today. I've tweaked the meal plan & defrosted l/o karahi chicken for tonight instead of creating additional heat from the oven making the veggie moussaka I'd planned. Never mind, I shall make that tomorrow - it'll be good to use up some aubergines as our plants are very productive atm.
Was envious to read online that Cornwall has had storms & rain. Feel like doing witchy rain dance in my nuddypants but I'll spare the neighbours.......the one at the back would have her husband on the phone to the council in the twinkling of a tassel!
I really don't like being so unproductive though.

It was amazingly hot earlier (SW, several counties East of Cornwall though), then got cloudy, and several degrees cooler later afternoon, then had a shower of rain, though no storm. Stopped now, interesting to see what happens next. Sun seems to be coming out again!

I popped outside when Mr F got home, @DawnW, just to see exactly how hot it was.....I'm assuming it's touched 40° here as we are close to Lincs border where some v high readings have been recorded......Well, bear in mind I don't go abroad, I stepped off the doorstep from my darkened cave & was hit by a massive wall of heat. So I'm afraid my first words to Mr F were "This is effing INSANE'!!! Not the most erudite of greetings, I admit, but with never having visited hot countries, I have never known anything like it.
No rain here. There was supposedly a 50:50 chance of a shower here late pm but in actual fact, it came nowhere near us.
Shall have a meander down the garden shortly to assess priority watering needs.

We live in East Anglia and in the garden it was 42 degrees in the shade this afternoon. Like you, we covered our non-curtained windows with a cloth and cardboard to keep out the worst of the heat.My poor garden looks scorched - I could actually detect a singed smell through the open window this afternoon.
My poor cats (we also have two) are most unhappy at being kept in all day. I hope Soot and Ash are coping ok with the heat'In the widening gap between credits and debits hangs a question: What parts of this life are you willing to give up, so you can keep on living?'

I've watered the garden this evening without looking at any weather guesses. If it rains then it's so dry that it won't do any harm and I could feel the temperature starting to drop. Our cat is a posh one and she has a single coat so likes the heat but today she's been draping herself around the house instead of curling up as usual.4
