HHoD - You are so right! Father Christmas brought me the new Ken Follet novel - the prequel to his 'PIllars of the Earth' medieval trilogy, which I love. This one is set in the 10th Century & I am loving curling up with it by the light of my reading lamp & tealights. Yes, leaks can spread such a lot of water. We held my handbag mirror under the radiator to see if we could find where the water was coming from & it was actually a hole where it had blown! Hopefully should be replaced this coming week. Builder didn't think there would be a problem, it's under warrantee & he is currently busy on a job just on the next street which was fortuitous! The water seemed to have had a surge, made a big puddle & soaked a doormat before settling down to a steady drip. But there are worse problems we could have had. We are both well, etc, etc, & trying to concentrate on the positives, though it is difficult when watching the news.

Hi Sunday Savers,
Well, actually I haven't been much of a saver today as have ordered a pair of pretty ankle wellies for myself, for wearing in the garden. I am in & out so often as my efforts get underway (anytime now) & I really do need something I can slip on & off at the door & rinse off under the tap when they are really muddy. I have been trying to buy a pair for ages but they have been selling out like crazy, with only size 3s & 9s in stock or none at all. I found the pair I really like today on another website so have ordered them, but I don't know if the order will be fulfilled as my confirmation email said 'This item will be dispatched from our friends at ********' which is one of the places where they have been completely out of stock. Ah well, worth a try.
On a more money saving front, I set about that leftover pork roasting joint with a vengeance this morning. It did a roast dinner last night & I have divided up the rest to make hot pork cobs with apple sauce tonight & Chinese-style spicy pork rice tomorrow. I have also frozen a tray of slices in leftover gravy to provide another Sunday dinner at some point, & the last couple of slices were cut up & added to a portion of leftover roast veg, a splash of gravy & frozen in a microwavable lidded mug for a work lunch for Mr F. I was pleased with that. I occasionally make pork hash, rissoles or adapt a leftover meat curry recipe but more recently we've been enjoying the simplicity of a hot roll with apple sauce as an easy & filling way to use up leftover pork, so I decided to go with that.
Mr F likes chunky coleslaw with his, so as we bought a cabbage from the farm stall, I will make a batch later on & might save a bit for my lunch tomorrow. I do like to roll something forward towards another meal if possible. It was something I did a lot when we were concentrating on becoming (& importantly, staying) debt-free.
It seems colder today, despite a bright morning & I found myself sitting in a jersey dress & not-very-warm cardi, contemplating turning the heating thermostat up. Then you'll be pleased to hear I had a swift word with myself. Before we had our recent heating upgrade, I always wore plenty of winter layers & often didn't switch the heating on downstairs until 5 or 6pm. I don't know why I am now wearing less & wondering why I am chilly. Despite having central heating now, that is one little behaviour I can knock on the head before it becomes a habit! So I am now wearing the big chunky purple fisherman's jumper I finished during Lockdown #1 over my dress & not only liking the look, but feeling much more cosy. I used to be so stingy with the heating when we had the old system -don't know why I was beginning to lapse.
Well, I think I am going to go & see who I have to snog around here to get a cup of tea,
Love to all,

I love a hot roast pork & apple sauce cob 😋 are you having some sage and onion stuffing in there as well? I haven't had one for years but the other day I was thinking where I could put them on the meal plan.
No hope of snogging anybody here for a cup of tea, OH is asleep on the settee, looks like I am going to have to make my own.Fashion on a ration 2024 66/66 coupons remaining

Hey everyone. Ive been quiet for a few days trying to get my head around a few things. The pump outside which is to pump water from the washing machine and tumbler dryer packed up, (hubby built me a laundry room in the garden.) So poor hubby had to dig a whole and do what ever he had to do to sort it out in the nasty wind and rain. He got soaked as I forgot he was out there seeing to it and I put the washing machine on.. oops he got saturated🤣 shouldn't laugh really. Started decorating back lobby but left around the door frame as we are having a new door fitted next month. Got to see the nurse tomorrow for blood tests, one being for diabetes as physiotherapist panicked when I said I couldn't feel my toes!!! Its all to do with nerve damage from my last back operation. I had a moan as well because she was on video chat and wanted me to take off my slippers and socks and roll up my jeans so she could see my feet, I couldn't do it so she had a go at me and wanted to know why I couldn't do it!! Doohh read my notes ive got a bad back and hips etc .. Apart from that, John is doing ok, Sylvia struggling to understand why the day centre she goes to is closed at the moment and she can't visit her mum, bless her. Food shop all done for 4 weeks meal plan done. Credit card nearly paid off. So I'm feeling good. Going to read my book for a bit and play my game before I go to bed. It will soon be 6am and the alarm will be going off.. take care and keep safe X ( too many cars on roads and motorway why are people still, not taking this virus seriously)Mortgage free September 2021. BaileysBabe - No sage & onion stuffing on this occasion, although I do often make it. Defo sounds like hot pork & apple sauce cobs should be back on your meal plans.
OBL - I am happy to eat shop-bought coleslaw if it's decent - some of the 'diet' varieties are pretty vile, but Mr F likes my home made one because it is chunkier. You should defo make some if you fancy it. It uses seasonal fresh veg & is a good way to boost your 5-a-day.
That was a very convenient radiator leak, straight into the bath - no such luck here!
Pixiehouse55 - Life in Lockdown goes on, doesn't it.....& on......& on, but staying well is the main thing. Yes, there is a lot more traffic around than during the first Lockdown. I mentioned to Mr F the other day that he'd be home quicker as there'd be a lot less on the roads & he said the traffic on his route home is more or less the same as normal, with the usual congestion at junctions, etc. There must be a whole lot more people working this time.

Morning all,
An early start this morning, as Mr F had to be at work at stupid o' clock to let an engineer in. I decided to get an early start too, so have already done 2 loads of laundry & got them onto the heated airer (that should be all the laundry for this week), made bread dough (on its 2nd proving), done my Monday morning budget updates, vacuumed all of downstairs & had a good tidy.
I have also sorted out some survey stuff. I cashed out from Prolific just before Christmas so have pulled my earnings (£63-00) out of Paypal & added it to my Personal Spends spreadsheet. I have also logged into another survey site (the one which has recently had a major update) & resurrected my account. There were a lot of surveys available so I have done those & am now not all that far off the £25-00 cash-out threshold. I am going to have a break from this survey provider as soon as I have cashed out as I find it does take a long time to build up to cash-out level when so many are 10p or 15p a time. I currently do Ipsos, Prolific & YouGov & will stick with those for this year, as it is useful extra cash or vouchers to add to my 'Spends'.
I'm not sure how much I will get done this afternoon in terms of jobs as I have the workman who did the new shed roof coming round later to see why it has failed (the water is coming through worse than ever). I shan't need to expend much effort on cooking, as I have set aside some of yesterday's rubber pork to make a Chinese-style spicy rice. One thing I do want to get done today is to lay out all the blanket squares I have knitted so far on the bed to try & work out how many I will need in total. I need to find this out sooner rather than later to ensure that I have equal numbers of each colour. All the squares are knitted with the same yarn, but I bought some in every colour as they go together well & the finished blanket/bedspread throw will look quite different to others I already have. I'm knitting a different textured pattern for each colour - spiral, hexagon, triangle, striped, heart, sun rays, concentric squares, etc. The patterns are quite subtle but are making the squares more interesting to knit & I think they will look nice when the whole thing is finished & laid out flat over the bed.
Well, I have no idea when to expect workman, so I think I will have an early lunch so that I am ready to fling my coat on ready for soggy trek down the garden.
Hope everyone is getting off to a good start to the week - it is definitely harder to keep motivated at the moment, but it sounds as though the vaccinations are progressing - I read this morning that over-70s are about to be called in for their turn. I'm a long way off yet, am right down near the bottom of the list, & Mr F is even lower down than me, but it does at least feel as though there is a bit more hope on the horizon this time round. Take care, all.

Hello m'dears,
A few useful things achieved today & managed to fit in a quick walk this morning before the rain started. Not a spend-free day unfortunately as we've had to have our car windscreen replaced, but at least we'll only be paying the insurance excess amount. I have paid the money for Mr F's car parking pass off our just-for-points credit card, done 2 more surveys, sorted out my seed box to assess what needs buying, sorted out all the clean laundry, done my piano practice & fed my sourdough jar ready for bread making tomorrow.
I finished my calculations re my hand knitted bedspread. Ideally I need 144 squares & have so far knitted 37. There are ten different ones, so I shall need 14 of each plus 4 extras. I don't really want to buy any more yarn so if it looks as though I won't have enough for a 12 x 12 square blanket, I will deduct a row or two from the length & keep the width at 12 squares. I think I should be ok though. I can knit 7 squares from 1 ball & I think I bought 3 balls of each colour, so that should also leave me some for sewing it all together.
I injured my arm yesterday like a numpty. I banged it on a door handle & it hurt so much, I saw stars. My fingers were all tingly & weird for a while afterwards. It is swollen today but a bit less painful. I ran it under cold water & applied a bag of frozen edamame beans straight afterwards. I did feel proper sorry for myself & Mr F bought me some chocolate to cheer me up, which was quite medicinal as it happens.
The wind is starting to rattle the chimney. The forecast looks awful. Will be keeping an eye on flood warnings but nothing at all serious for our area yet.
Stay cosy,

Sorry about your arm, and although the poor arm is definitely not funny, applying the frozen edamame beans made me laugh - you are definitely a foodie. Hope the beans and the chocolate help.11
