Daydreamer & Narola - Yes, he's ok, thanks. He's got a bruise coming, but he'll think it makes him look hard!
Narola - Apple charlotte isn't difficult but the problem is that I am relying on memories of my Nan making it when I was young & some general guidance from a facebook page! I wish I'd asked Nan for the recipe before she died because all the ones I've found online involve layering breadcrumbs & this was defo not how she made it. So if it's nice, I'll be writing it down! If I don't get it right first go, I'll tinker with it until it's the nostalgic pud of my childhood!

I remember making it at school ,I think we stewed the Apple and then fried the breadcrumbs in butter, then layered it in a bowl and topped with whipped cream, there was also one using uncooked breadcrumbs that you baked in the oven but I can't remember what we did with the breadcrumbs before baking itOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,1207

Cancel that, the one we made with the fried breadcrumbs is called Apple Brown Betty not Apple Charlotte , it was lovely though 😀Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,1206

Oh yes, that's nice too, OBL. My Nana's apple charlotte was made from slices of white bread with the crusts cut off. My first attempt at recreating it worked quite well. I spread both sides of tge bread with butter & lined a dish, then the sliced apples went in, sprinkled with brown sugar & 5 tbsp milk. More buttered slices of bread cut into triangles & arranged on top, sprinkled with more sugar then baked until appea are cooked & bread is sweet, brown & crispy.
I expect it was considered one of those hearty puds which fed a hungry family by making good use of stale bread & windfall apples. We ate it with ice cream but my Nana had a jug of evaporated milk.

Glad to hear Mr F isn't seriously injured and is going to wear his bruises with pride.
This morning was lovely and sunny, within an hour it was dark grey, then the rain arrived which varied from very heavy to just rain, the wind arrived mid-afternoon and has been working with the rain. Glad we are safe in our home.

Oh my days, where has today gone? I have no idea. I think it must have been stolen away by goblins.
Hello to everyone reading tonight, I have just plonked my backside on the sofa & as Mr F is cooking tonight, I'm going to make a start on my next library book. Today I've done three loads of laundry & pegged it out - now finishing off on heated airer. I topped up the pond (definitely looking as though it has sprung a leak), watered greenhouse seedlings, fed birds, gathered a big colander of apples which the wind had fetched down in the night & stewed them up for the Apple Hoover. I also drove across town to pick up my click & collect order (all presents), walked down to the postbox to post a letter & did an hour of piano practice. And that didn't feel like much at all, but dusk is falling already & I have little will to start anything else now. I think I will feel more productive tomorrow.
Stay safe,
