CLF - You're quite right. My Dad could be a bit of a devil with that kind of reasoning too. He'd try to justify buying a new car because the 3 years free servicing was about to run out on his current one. I used to say "Dad, if you want a new car, it's your money, buy one. But don't try to kid yourself with that daft financial reasoning". I used to make all sorts of ridiculous justifications for overspending. One was "I don't earn enough!"
Well, in that case, I didn't need to be wasting such huge amounts of money, did I?!
And when I said that to a much lesser paid colleague, she remarked that she & her husband put together had never earned as much as my single salary.
That did make me think.... for about ten minutes..... then business as spendy usual.

That dress was certainly the only thing in that hairy laundry load with a vaguely knitted texture, but I'd ruled it out because it is sooooooo purple & the fluff, which I even photographed as evidence (!) was very, very black! Hello Saturday Savers,
A useful day, but I have now sat down with a cup of tea & apart from getting my loaf out of the oven when the timer pings, I don't intend to do any more jobs. I nobbled Mr F before he went off to the tip, to help me get the last pots of tender plants into the greenhouse for winter & have spent the day continuing with rationalising kitchen storage. I tackled the dresser today, especially my Christmas crockery, etc. I was pretty ruthless.... a plate in the bin because of a bad chip, a serving dish wrapped & added to the charity bag because I haven't used it more than 3 times in 20 years, ditto a candle pot thingy, glass pebbles which just annoy me & a dinner party sort of quiz game which would never work here as everyone would be too busy yakking & filling their faces to hear the questions, & Mr F & B-i-L would shout 'Chips' or 'Beer' for every other answer! Let's just say that the charity shop bag is filling nicely.
I've emptied bins, cleaned the bathroom & am now going to curl up with my book. Oh, & I've nagged my nephews (17 & 12) for their Christmas lists & said that if I don't hear anything, I'll assume it's because they'd totally love a selection of socks & pants chosen by their Aunty. That threat usually does the trick.
Peace & love,

OBL - Yes & you were right. I know about the different colours in fabrics because I'm a knitter. It was just the sheer amount of black fluff that made me rule out my purple dress. An unbelievable amount & none of it was purple at all. For instance when I soaked a shirt in a sink of cold water to try & float some of it off, it resulted in about a tablespoon of black fluff caught in the plug hole strainer from that garment alone & the whole wash was affected. Dress currently qiarantined! Ironing pile on one side of the ottoman, purple dress in isolation ward at the other end. Still love the dress though. Still want one in another colour!

Evening Foxgloves, just caught up on your diary and the tale of the evil black fluff 's origins
When you said you stripped off to track it down, I read on with bated breath wondering if we'd learn that you'd been collecting it in your tummy button all this time 🤣🤣

Hello diary readers,
Our sunny morning has now turned to grey, but no matter as I've not needed to go outside for anything except picking french beans. Mid-October, yet still another 700g ready to pick. They've earned every cm of their space in the veggie garden this year.
A lazy day today - a lovely bubble bath, face mask & general pamper & I've read a few more chapters of my book. After that, I spent rather too long on news websites. I am a news junkie - esp politics - but I have definitely found that this has sobered my mood today. The wretched virus is nowhere near being brought under control in this country, & while I am infuriated by all the complete divs hitting the town, partying, etc, it's nothing like the ire I feel for the hopeless mess the government has made of the whole thing. Our local city has an infection rate of over 700 per 100,000 people, yet has no restrictions. That's more than the places further north which are under special measures. The uselessness of Test, Track & Trace makes me feel that the whole summer & time the whole UK was locked down has been completely wasted. I've decided not to look at any more news today & to limit it tomorrow.
Anyway, guess what I'm doing now? I'm shppping from home! Knowing that the imminent arrival of my piano could be a trigger for buying lots of lovely new music, I have brought all my music downstairs & am going through it all to see what I've got. And yes, needless to say, I have more pieces than I could realistically learn to play in a lifetime! I've bookmarked a few new pieces to learn when I fancy a change. There is just one nocturne I would like to own, but I am going to put it on my Christmas list.
So that's my lazy day today, though I shall just check later on that everywhere the electrician needs to access tomorrow is accessible, as he's arriving bright & early.
And off we go into another week.
Be kind to yourselves & stay safe,

Foxgloves says "The uselessness of Test, Track & Trace makes me feel that the whole summer & time the whole UK was locked down has been completely wasted. She is soon to take over as head of the successor to Public Health England. That should go well to. Is it a coincidence she is married to a Tory M.P.10
