Ohhhhh, an energy-sapping 33 degrees forecast here for today. Mr F's day off - we both wilt in the heat so we've decided to divide labours. He's off to the supermarket & market to do the weekly shop and I've already flung all the windows open & am about to start on my big weekly house clean.
Must endeavour not to wilt until at least mid-afternoon.

Me too, Tescodealqueen, including jumping across kitchen floor swinging imaginary microphone lead in the guitar break!

Morning Moneysavers,
An excellent night's sleep despite it being so horribly muggy. Decided at midnight to dispense wirh duvet & just have a sheet plus open windows. Result!
So far this morning, I've prepped a pork joint/sauce for the slow cooker - we have family over for a BBQ tonight - & I find it really useful making a crock of something in addition to food coming off the BBQ. I've baked biscuits which go lovely with ice cream so that's easy-peasy dessert sorted. I just need to make halloumi skewers later (which will use some of the courgette mountain as well as an ageing red pepper) & make a salad from our own homegrown lettuce, cuke, tomatoes & spring onions. Then it's just a case of making the place look nice - I'm finding this is more important now that none of us are going out much. I want people who have been to a BBQ in our garden to feel they have had a trip out & to go home feeling uplifted & relaxed. Although as Nigella says, we are 'never knowingly under-catered', people probably just drive home feeling proper stuffed!
No further plans for today. I may finish my current pair of (stash busting) mittens or I may just read & take my snippers & deadheading basket around the garden.
Wishing everyone a good weekend. I feel sure there will be further lockdowns likely. Some of the comments from all those Dorset beach goers yesterday (mostly from late teens) showed a serious lack of understanding as to the nature of global pandemics. I do have sympathy for young people having been locked down for over 3 months but it is exactly where we will all end up again if people don't start working out exactly what part of socially distancing they don't understand! This is how it is going to have to be for a long time.
So off I go to sort out my socially distanced garden benches & separate set of serving utensils for our guest family, etc, etc. It is all twice as much faff but it seems pointless wearing masks & endlessly using hand sanitiser when out & about, only to end up taking the p*ss at home.
Have drunk so much coffee this morning, I reckon I'll be flying soon!
Cheers all,

Enjoy your day. Sounds like you are well prepared, have to agree with everything you have said about people having to realise this isn't going to go away unless we take greater care10

Enjoy your family bbq Foxgloves.
It looks like we may have to choose between pubs and schools soon! An easy choice for me as I rarely go to pubs, but it will hurt some people a lot. It shows how far from normal we still are and makes me glad that DH and I have been so cautious despite lockdown easing. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Your BBQ sounds lovely and goes to prove that with a little bit of thought you can be sensible and still enjoy yourself. And I also agree with everything you say. If people continue to be selfish it will only end in more lockdowns. I just can't understand why they don't see this.Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.10

I'm glad it's not just me being curmudgeonly. I read a few comments from Dorset beach visitors yesterday, all from young people on this occasion, & all were very much along the lines of 'I feel perfectly safe here'. I'm afraid there is simply no point in enduring over 3 months of Lockdown if people don't maintain precautionary measures afterwards, when actually it is MORE important, because more people are out & about, as well as returning to their workplaces. Whatever Johnson says, this is not going to be over by Christmas & 'normal-ish' things can only continue if people stick to the rules. I may have to make a few more masks soon, as we can get through quite a few in a week, with Mr F needing at least one a day for work, plus me wearing one when I'm shopping, etc.
Ah well, I'm going to concentrate on BBQ prep & the big black clouds which are brewing.

I agree everyone needs to realise we have a long way to go and being cautious is necessary.
I wish we could have a family bbq or afternoon tea, but we are in the part of the country with the latest restrictions.
Have fun and enjoy hosting, I will just have to live vicariously, more details the better.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent
