The ‘storm’ icon on my weather app has moved back all day and no sign of it. It’s now saying rain tomorrow and maybe a clap of thunder mid afternoon. We’ll see.I’ve not made a Roman blind before either foxgloves or a pair of curtains for that matter. I did buy a ‘kit’ about 11 years ago before my eldest was born as I was planning on making a Roman blind for the ‘nursery’ but after buying everything read that they shouldn’t be in a baby’s room as the cord could be dangerous. So I made the material into cushion covers instead.I’ve kept the kit all this time. Although this time it’s made it out of the box. Plus I’ve been inspired by Sewing Bee that I stumbled across having never seen it before. I’ve found a really good site that explains it step by step and have used their instructions to work out how much material I need. Ideally I need to make 5 😲 which is part of the reason I want to work out how to make them as it’ll be so much cheaper than any quote I’ve had so far (they range from several hundred to nearly £2,000) for 3 blinds!!!!So I’m starting with the one people will see least 😂 I’ll keep you posted on my progress6

At home in Co. Durham this weekend. Just had the loudest thunderstorm ever with lightening to match. Torrential rain for about 30 mins & knocked our power off for an hour. Back up now and air is nice and clear & fresh.7

No thunder or rain here so hoping for night rain! This hot weather is exhausting, also made a cake as asked to make one for family member. I’m not very good at charging for cakes especially if it’s friends and family. Going to make an effort to cost this out and at least get cost of ingredients back, don’t mind giving my time. It’s going to be a bee keeper theme, just hope it’s cooler tomorrow icing and heat not a good combination. Paid today 😀 and a bit extra for concessionary day working so will put towards pay off debts and the last lot of mileage from March too! Brain too tired for budgets tonight so a job for tomorrow when cake is done. Sunday is gardening day, managed to salvage my courgette plants from pesky slugs, looking bit sorry for themselves though. My spinach and beetroot plants got drowned in last weeks rain and something ate my carrot seedlings. I’m a novice so any hints for avoiding hungry pests from any green fingered veg gardeners gratefully received 😀 on a positive also earned £6.84 from prolific and waiting for some more to be paid, once it gets to £10 will pay off a cc debt . Thanks foxgloves your posts are inspiring .

Hi Welshspendthrift,
I've had big problems with pests in the past, so I start all my seedlings off in modules under cover & when I plant them outside, they are netted, cloched or otherwise covered until they are big enough to sustain an attack.
Sparrows are our worst pest for plant shredding but we like to encourage wildlife so it's just easier to cover stuff than get upset about it.
F x2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!8 -
Thank you will try and cover what I can have been saving any pop bottles to mahe into cloches too, hope the weather will be kind tomorrow so I can get some garden plants sorted , rain and showers no real dry periods and I’m getting cake done slowly! Managed to mostly use ingredients in stock so haven’t had to buy much for this cake! Have a good Sunday everyone 😀foxgloves said:Hi Welshspendthrift,

Well, to all those people who commented yesterday about lack of rain & mega-stickiness, I can say that we did have rain overnight & there have been showers on & off all day. Still quite muggy but there's a wind getting up now..... in fact I've just had to go out & peg the strawberry netting down.... which is cooling the air.
Productive day. Town first thing to post a tin of yeast to my sister, as there were good stocks of it in Waitr*se the orher day. Treated Mr F (& myself, naturally) to a takeaway cakeypoo from our favourite indie coffee shop & called at the little health shop for dried fruit as there wasn't any at the supermarket. Once home, we applied caffiene then got cracking on weekly house cleaning which was all finished by lunchtime. I am keen to get the conservatory decluttered so I used the leftover fabric from renovating my armchair to cover some dining chair cushions. They were very quick to do with my sewing machine. I was just packing it away when it struck me how horrible the cover looks now.... grubby old plastic stuff which reminds me of the plastic nappy pants my sister wore in 1968! I took it back off & cut it into individual panels to use as pattern pieces & if I sew a seam down the back panel, I have sufficient fabric left from my chair & cushions to make a sewing machine cover. It will look much nicer up on its shelf in Foxgloves HQ without that yukky ripped plastic monstrosity. Have I achieved anything else? Baked a loaf, watered greenhouse veg, picked basil & spring onions plus a few sweetpeas for the windowsill - free room fragrance!
Well, I think I can hear Mr F dishing up his lasagne - it's a quorn mince one.... he makes a good lasagne & I noticed he has also made a spare one for tge freezer. Top bloke, lol!
Well enjoy your evenings, m'dears. Gin, choc & old episodes of 'Beck' for me.

PurpleFairy - Good luck with the blind. I love 'Sewing Bee'. My sis has been contemplating whether to apply to go on it. I don't know if she has come to any conclusions yet. It would be my worst nightmare (well apart from being stuck in a lift with a big spider while being forced to watch TV shopping channels on a loop!)

Oh tell her to definitely apply. It would be such a fab experience and she has nothing to loose, everything to gain! I think it’s great what they achieve. I’m stretching myself evening doing a blind, having only done cushion covers before. However, I’ve managed to do the lining today so progress made!foxgloves said:PurpleFairy - Good luck with the blind. I love 'Sewing Bee'. My sis has been contemplating whether to apply to go on it.
