Hello everyone.....Hope everyone is ok in these strange times? Feels like I havent been here in ages as such a lot as happened. To say Ive not had the best start to the year is an understatement. Obviously losing my Mam on Valentines Day was a huge loss to me and all our family but we gave her a fantastic send off with the horses and carriage that she wanted for her funeral. A few days before funeral we had to make the dreaded decision to have our beloved Chocolate Lab Max put to sleep. He was 13 and struggling with his back legs and messing every day in the house. He couldnt stand unless we helped him so it was the kindest thing to do. He had a brilliant life and is sorely missed!!
So then we move on to Corona Virus which my Dad is getting wrong every time he says it. Crooner virus is one of the more funny ones:
The restaurant I work in is still open but for how much longer we dont know. Customers are dwindling by the day (as it should be) but that of course means our hours are being cut and we dont know if and when we have to close, what SSP we will be entitled to and for how long. These are worrying times for everybody.
Im not so much bothered about having to take time off as I have plenty to keep me busy and I will have the best allotment on the siteand like many of you, I like to bake and cook from scratch. can see me even having a go at bread!!
A big welcome to Northernsoulsouthernlife as well. So so sorry to hear of your loss. You are in great company here, and you are right, this IS a lovely group of people.
We will all get through these troubling times together and keep each others spirits up.
Im ready for that recipe Foxgloves that you promised me. Cant remember what it was lol but Im sure my greedy gannet of a husband will love it.
Sorry for the long ramble but its nice to get it all off my chest.
Stay safe everyone.
Xx

Humdinger-Yes, spooky indeed, lol!
BaileysBabe - Yes, I've been thinking about it & I think the solution is probably a big piece of duct tape all along the crack to try & shore it up a bit, & some bubble wrap stuffed into the gap. Goodness knows when I'll be able to buy a new pane but Mr F says he'll try to find out if there's anywhere local.

Welcome back, Kantankrus, I did wonder how things were going for you, as I know from fairly recent experience how much needs to be organised following a close family death. A coach & horses sounds amazing. Sounds like you did your Mum proud.
Sorry to hear about the loss of your old doggy friend. Losing a much-loved pet is always sad..... we always have rescue animals & always tell ourselves that they had a lovely life with us & wanted for nothing. Like you said, defo not the best start to the year & being in the restaurant business isn't going to be a bundle of fun over the next few months. I think you will have the best allotment though, through all the extra work. I will certainly be out in the garden as much as possible & also getting on with various other projects.
These are very unsettling times & I'm going to try & keep my dfw diary going to help keep my spirits up. I don't like situations I can't control, but we're all in the same boat so will just have to get on with it, won't we?

Oh sorry Kantankrus...forgot to say that I PM'd that recipe to you. I didn't want to publish it on my diary because the book is still in print so is copyrighted. Can still recall attending a term of lectures on copyright law!

My new go-to phrase is 'supermarket gannetry'. Thank you for that! I haven't heard the gannet named since my mother used it to describe me and my teenage friends...took me right back.
I'm so grateful that I had my LBM before this crisis hit. I'm worried about people on zero-hours contracts without an EF or who've never got round to budgeting. I hope there will be some silver linings: while feeling for all those working in retail, this may be a reset moment in relentless consumerism. Any new normal will take some adjustment though. Anyhow, I will keep reading your diary for moments of golden hilarity combined with sound common sense. Foxgloves, what a day and how well you describe the drama of greenhousegate as it unfolded. Sorry that you both sustained injuries though.5

Thanks for the sympathy OBL & Blackcats. My neck/shoulder is better than it was on Wednesday when I sustained the injury but still painful, especially if I make any sudden moves. Friday is my big regular house cleaning day, so while I'll need to be careful, I'm hoping that some sustained careful movement will help a bit.
