whilst you had multiple bookings for the same dates there were probably people who wanted your booked rooms but none were available due to your actions.
once before travelling to the USA I was unable to book rooms at one of my destinations as none were available, yet when I got there several rooms became available to to late cancellations.
I think these accommodations should start charging deposits to stop actions such as yours so that only definite bookings are made, rather than speculative ones.
in the UK you would probably have to have paid cancellation fees.
the American hotels must lose a lot of bookings and revenue due to the fact that people can cancel at no cost within 24 hours of arrival
I regularly book UK hotels that allow free cancellation on the arrival date.
I think you're in cloud cuckoo land.0 -
Do you really think it is right to book 2 different hotels for the same night knowing full well that you only need 1 room.
Would you do this if there was a cancellation charge ?
Do you think is fair to other people who may want to stay at 1 of those hotels but are unable to do so due to your selfishness ?
do you really think I am in cloud cuckoo land ? I think is dishonest to book 2 rooms knowing full well you only need 1 room that night ?
Tough luck if you are now getting bitten for your actions.0 -

The hotels that offer free cancellations obviously think it’s fair.
I do it regularly in the USA so that I can get a price I want with options
I am sure it is a commercial decision by the hotels to offer the service maybe you should get on to them to ask them to stop it0 -

I didn't know that I only needed 1 room, clearly stated that I booked them before I finalised my itinerary/flights - and no I couldn't wait until after I booked my flights, because these lodges get booked up quickly
sterling has strengthened to 1.41!! ARGH I still haven't gotten out, and Trump is creating havoc on the dollar now it seems
looking on the bright side, if sterling is stronger I can have cheaper future trips to the US lol0 -
Almost 1.37! I can't believe I'm celebrating the sterling weakening0

1.35 on Nationwide website, what level do you need the Dollar to hit to break even on your remaining cancellations?0 -

I need 1.29 to breakeven, which will never happen I don't think. So I will probably cancel my reservations in the next few days before it goes up again. I'm not greedy lol, just wanted to minimise my losses0 -

Usually the hotels that are offering free cancelations are going through someone like hotels.com or the like that insist that it’s included. So to get your hotel in there you have to agree to their conditions. Same as Tesco insisting a farmer sells his milk at below cost. You need to be on these sites or your dead in the water.
I for one would never book more than one hotel to hedge my bets. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
