NatWest planning new security on login

NatWest are going to be introducing an additional level of security on their login page by asking for the user's surname.
This was always an issue when someone entered the wrong customer number and got locked out after two attempts to enter selected characters from their PIN and password. Unfortunately it was the user whose number was entered in error who is then locked out without entering any incorrect details.
Whilst this was a result of poor design in the first place it is good that NatWest are finally removing this potential risk.
Curiously, I happened upon this advance warning when responding to a customer questionnaire when I logged out of online banking.

I have always thought that the NatWest/Ulster Bank security process for login was the weakest of all the online banks, building societies and credit card accounts that I hold. Glad to hear that they are trying to make improvements.0

As this 'another level' is your surname I doubt many will not be able to remember it.
The point of this particular exercise is to eliminate an error in NatWest's systems which can block another user entirely if someone makes an error. It isn't making problems, it's solving them.Samsung_Note2 wrote: »Finger print sign is is fine..all you need.

Yes, if you have a capable device, and have fingers. (not everybody does, do you want to exclude them from the banking system?)"In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0
