Still Being Charged More by Debit Card

They're not charging you more, you're paying the normal price. You get a discount if, and only if, you pay by DD.
You could always set up a DD for the initial payment then cancel it.
That's why I wrote "effectively". It's a fact. I am paying more for the exact same annual subscription because I am paying up-front for the entire year using a debit card.
To be quite honest, I really don't understand it. Wouldn't you prefer to be paid up-front rather than installments? Don't answer that... rhetorical question.
It annoys me more considering that my subscription had gone up by more than 20% this year anyway, so it's not like they can't cover the administration costs to process the payment. That's Brexit for you... or the war on terror... or whatever.
Anyway, the point stands. This seems to stand in opposition to the spirit of the law, which I understand was introduced to equalise payment methods so that consumers got a fair deal. Maybe the law makers should have plugged this loophole? Yet another consumer law put together in good faith, but poorly executed.0 -
A DD could just as easily be annual as well as monthly, remember. So someone paying by DD could also be paying the full year up front just as easily as someone paying by card.0

If your objective is to maximise this this quarter's income, you go for an up front payment.
If it's to increase longevity of subscriptions, you would prefer DD.0
