Income protection

I would like to check on a situation regarding income protection and if a claim would be possible.... I expect not to due to age etc... here goes.... Back in 1994 my first mortgage via the black horse at the time advised on using a pension to pay the endowment (those days!). The pension plan was taken out with Scottish Widows in 1994 and had income protection added to the policy... I had this for about 4-5 years at which time new job, pension/house/mortgage so payment stopped into this plan..... Unfortunately I forgot about the IPP on the policy and the time I realised was when calling they advised that the policy had zero fund and the £5k had been used to pay the IPP!!!..... ok I should have read the statements but I just felt and still do to this day frustrated about not only losing the £5k but 5yrs pension.... I expect I have no recourse but thought I'd ask?. PS last pension statement 2016 noting IPP even though no funds its like rubbing it in....

I suspect it was not Scottish Widows you took it out with but Black Horse Life. The rebranding would come later. The old BHL permanent Health Insurance policy was actually a very good product. It was back in the days when bank products could actually be quite good. A little dated by todays standards but good its day.

    None whatsoever.

  • Thanks for reply. The policy was pure income protection for a stated payment due to loss of earning. Just wanted to check as I did not want in many more years to find I may have a case.
