She's 22 and she managed to buy

Since the age of 18 I have worked no less than 40 hours a week, whilst all my friends where in university partying, living it up, I put my retail career first and worked all the weekends, all the late night shifts in hope I was progressing up the business. Today I am beaming with pride that I can officially say I own my own home. My parents have never paid a single bill for me since 18, I managed to do this all by myself. I worked hard, I put the hours in and finally I have a fantastic salary for my age and I own my own home all at the age of 22. Sometimes you have to think of the long game because life goes extremely quick. I may not have a degree in anything but I have 4 years of hard work and real life experience behind me. And I know I'm far from finnished this is Just the start. The real hard work starts now. And in all honesty it was the people that doubted me and said I couldn!!!8217;t do it that made me want it more! !!!128170;!!!127995;

Has she not realised it's a conspiracy? Now she's got a huge mortgage round her neck as opposed to a lifetime of unpaid rent. What if interest rates go up?

    We are 30 miles from her and I sit with a guy whose daughter, similar age, works in retail. She works part time ( no idea why), I did point out that there are affordable houses, but he tells me young people can never afford their own home..... It's generally not worth being critical of someone else's child but I do feel like pointing out that it is possible, certainly in the North West.

    Most kids haven't finished Uni, and shes climbing the corporate ladder and owns a home - makes you wonder if degrees are worth it, i have always been dubious

    A lot of people that go straight into work seem to be fairly successful and working from the bottom upwards is far better career wise. The amount of senior people i have worked with over the years (Finance professionals and Accountants) that dont know the basics is frightening
  • I know youngsters buying homes that have had no bank on mum & dad assistance. They are the antithesis of the moaners that claim it's impossible to buy a place. They just get on with life and don't have time for whingeing and negativity. Human Beings have always said yesterday was better than today.

    That is the problem in many areas if you have job with a bit of effort it is possible to buy a property while in other areas its much more difficult if not impossible unless you are earning a good salary.

    I check in on Blibble's thread on the Mortgagefree wannabe board. Him and his partner are 23, bought a house for 127k, both in jobs not described as much more than minimum wage ( though he's just been promoted).

    Southeast they couldn't do it though.

    Alright, my mate bought his first house (flat) when he was 25, that was in london. His current house is worth £750k and hes just turned 30.

    Then another mate has just bought her first house (at 30, she could afford earlier but was moving around) in suffolk. I dont know how much shes paid for it, but the house is vast (5 bedroom detached) with about half an acre of garden, so i suspect it was a lot.

    Most of my friends own (early 30's). I was one of the first at 24 with a 100k house.

    I do have one friend who cant afford a house. Hes got a really nice car though, hench muscles and an instagram feed that could rival Gordon Ramsays.

    A conspiracy? Please do not be silly. She has worked hard and achieved something positive. All you see are the negatives.

    What if interest rates go up, do you know she cannot afford a mortgage? The rate would have to go up quite a lot to make the house cost more than a rent. Maybe she has a 5 year fixed rate? Where is this?
    Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.
