Issues with Housing Association and Care Home

Hi, I have a family member who several years ago was placed into a Mental Institute. Whilst in there he was diagnosed with Dementia and moved into a full time care home. Whilst this has been going on he was being charged rent, council tax and utilities for a Housing Association property. Do you think there is anyway of getting this rent or the Council Tax back.

No. I assume the tenancy has now been ended?
For the duration of the tenancy they were/are liable for all rent and bills.0 -
Council tax is certainly possible depending on the council. Call and tell them date of them going into the institution and then the care home.
Rent is probably still going to be payable.0 -
Where they detained under a court order ?I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
