Mechantronic Unit gone 4 months out of Warrantee!!

Options
Hello all,
I brought my sept 14' Seat leon car from Arnold Clark full in cash.
The Mechantronic unit went mid January and I'm so distraught. Ive had so many different quotes the first for £4,000 with labour and the last being £2,600 all in all.
I just am looking for any further advice - when I brought the car, I didn't even know anything about extended warrantees :( I know I know - Ive certainly learnt a lot about them now.

I just wondered if anyone had any advice as to who I could speak to or a route in which might help me pay this horrible bill?

I appreciate any help and thank you in advance :)

What do you mean it went? Perhaps the oil needs changing, perhaps you could approach Seat Uk, and see what they say.

Have you got a full service history with any gearbox oil changes done on time? If so, contact Seat UK for a goodwill gesture?

    Exactly this.

The situation shows why having a DSG gearbox out of warranty is a gamble.
  • I do have a full service history, I think I will do that as I'd already called Seat but only to find out the price of a replacement unit. I will call and hopefully I'll meet good news!

Thank you so very much again.
  • What mileage has the car done. These gearboxes MUST be serviced at least every 38,000 miles. If you have not done that service then SEAT will just tell you to go away, simple as that.

Also, this is a service you have to specifically, request, dealerships and their normal servicing plans do not include this service as standard, it is a unique service in its own right.

If the car has not reached that mileage then providing you have full service history for the car SEAT MAY offer good will. However unless it has full dealer service history I wouldn't hold my breath, they like to be awkward like that.

As for getting it sorted, give 3D Transmissions a call in Reading, they can repair these units. Removing and refitting is not a massive job, so it might be cheaper to remove, send it away for repair and then refit.

However, first thing we need to know, which is the first thing I should have asked is.....what problems do you have? A lot of the time gear selection issues with this can be fixed with a simple oil change and if needed a re-adaptation of the gearbox. These units are VERY, VERY fussy as to the quality of their oil.

As Arnold Clark have more branches in Scotland than in England, I shall assume you purchased the car north of the border?

The DSG went in my wifes Altea at about 60k, I dont think it had been serviced - although you may find that some dealers dont think that they need an oil change.

Anyway, we used Mackie Automatic Transmissions Ltd in Glasgow and the cost was £3k. Took about 2 weeks to do, most of which was the wait for the mechatronics unit to be shipped from Germany. Note that each unit needs coding to the particular car, ensure whomever you use are familiar with them. Our cost also included replacing clutch one.
