Lost property in rental car
Has anyone ever successfully retrieved a lot item in a hire vehicle?
My partner handed back his hire car after someone smashed into his, and forgot to take my brand new (and quite pricey) sunglasses out. I'd only taken the tag off and worn them the day before and put them back in the dust bag and box so they'll be very easy to sell/gift as they're basically brand new.
Regardless of Ts and Cs about lost property etc I can't believe companies can get away with out right theft! To say they didn't find them when the car is cleaned between customers is a lie.
As a side note - do I have any right to be furious with my partner?!
Thanks!

Why are you saying that the company stole them? If they go missing it is more likely to be an individual than the company whether that be the employee doing the cleaning or the next person who hired it. If it has been handed back in a clean condition inside they won't have even done that and just given the outside a blast over so it is more likely to be the next person who hired the car.
I doubt the hire company have an Ebay page where they flog all the booty they get from idiots who don't check their car over before handing it back.
Maybe there's a lesson there about spending stupid money on sunglasses.....This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Did he leave them in the car or you?
Regards them going missing the kids that valet these cars get minimum wage - what they find left in the car is one of the "perks" of the job. I'm not saying its right, but its what happens.0 -

I'm assuming they were tucked away somewhere in a storage compartment, rather than being sat somewhere immediately obvious? For all you know, the sunnies weren't noticed at the rental depot, and were still in the car when it was passed on to the next renter.0 -

What a stupid and unhelpful comment.0 -
When will people take responsibility for their own actions ?0

1. I don't live with my partner and he handed the car back at a date of his own choosing when I wasn't there. Less of the idiot please.
2. Victim blaming? I don't think spending money on nice things means you deserve to lose them.
By Martin Lewis' own rule of 'can you afford it / will you use it?' I could afford it three times and yes I would use it... your bitter comments aren't needed. (and not that I need to explain myself to you but I'd saved up for these, they were not a flippant purchase).
It's not that I'm not taking responsibility for my actions, yes I left them in the car hidden because obviously I didn't want the car broken in to, but my partner handed the car back, not me, and I wasn't there when he did.
*Edit* I knew people who used to work for Argos who would steal and put things on Ebay, so instead of victim blaming perhaps direct your vitriol at the potential thieves (be it the company employee or next customer). Making a silly mistake doesn't make it OK for people to take something that doesn't belong to them.0 -

!
You would need some evidence of that, not just as assumption that they must have found them.As a side note - do I have any right to be furious with my partner?!
!
Depends if your partner was aware that the glasses were still in the vehicle !0 -
Are they worth enough to make a claim on your house insurance?0

You have a right to grow up and take responsibility for your own actions. Be careful with accusations, they h ave a nasty knack of biting you on the !!!!.Did he leave them in the car or you?

rather a bold assumption to make. Do you know for a fact that all the kids that valet the cars steal whatever is left in the car? Or are you being as libellous as the OP?0
