Have recieved a MG4E form after an honest mistake

Options
Hi all,

I got sent through the post a fixed penalty notice which i paid but i forgot to send off my license to get endorsed with the 3 penalty points (a honest and genuine mistake as i thought they did it digitally or some other way that didnt require my license) and i didnt see anywhere on the notice i got or website where i paid the fine the address to send it to.

Now ive received a MG4E form stating that because i didnt send in my license im getting charged further, possibly taken to court and im being asked to plead guilty or not guilty.

Im not contesting that i committed the original speeding offence but im wondering if there is anything else that can be done to prevent this being taken further and accumulating further charges than the original £100 fine that i paid but got refunded or do i just need to put it down to experience and be more attentive to details in the future

Kind regards

Pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity is the cheapest way out.

Agreed - you should get a 33% discount on any fine if you do.

You can try explaining the circs, and asking to be fined at the fixed penalty level. But don't hold your breath;).

It tells you on the notice where to send your license, there is a section which takes up almost 1/3 of the page about where to send it.

  • 1. Sorry - it's your "licence" not "license". Two different words.

    2. I find it hard to believe that the notice you received did not give you an address to send your licence to.
Are you absolutely sure of this?

If it's anything like the NIP I received last year, the instructions regarding payment and sending in your licence are very clear. (They don't physically do anything with the photocard licence - it's all recorded electronically - but they need sight of the licence for proof of ID).

Just be aware of two things.

    1. If they have not followed due process they will have to let you off, check the dates carefully.

    2. If the above is correct then plead guilty and pay up.

    3. Personally I find it incredible in this world you have to do this and I also found it difficult to find the requirement also.

Pepipoo's advice is to ask the court to treat it at FPN level as the reason it is there is due to an administrative error unconnected to the offence. There is no guarantee, but they often comply.
  • Thank you to everyone who has replied on this matter.

I will just have to wait and see what they say
