Multiple Travel Insurance Policies

My son is going on his first lads holiday this summer, a few days after his 18th birthday. He tells me hes sorted his travel insurance but Id like to buy him a policy that I know provides good cover just in case of a serious incident. Could that invalidate either policy?
I dont intend to tell him about it. He considers himself mature and responsible and frequently tells me Im over protective. So on the one hand I want to leave him with the responsibility to seek out insurance, but Id feel more comfortable having a backup in case he messes up.

Do you trust him to buy his own policy Y/N if yes why bother buying another0 -
You should congratulate both yourself and your son - some 18's would not bother with insurance.
Slip him a few quid in his hand when he goes and don't bother with a duplicate policy.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Its not that I dont trust him, but its one of his mates thats booked everything. My concern is hes probably placed his trust in them.
Im not fussed about lost baggage, missed departures and the like. Its all replaceable. But what I want to be certain of is that in the event of an awful accident he has sufficient cover to get whatever medical attention / repatriation he needs.0 -

It's probably booked online with electronic documents, Suggest gently to him that he should ask his mate to forward the confirmation email to him (and anyone else in the group), so he can
a) check over the policy details relating to him
b) has the details available to claim independently should he be separated from his mates
Having multiple policies can cause complications, but they will be less severe than the complications of being uninsured.0
