Failed PPI claim when sick

I have a current claim where HSBC admitted I had PPI on a loan from around 2003 - I remember at the time I was employed and was off work sick and when I made a claim they told me I wasn’t covered. I was young and at the time just accepted that and it obviously put me in financial difficulty. Should I insist this is taken into consideration when asking for compensation or will it make no difference to the amount of the claim. Obviously I realise now I’m older and wiser that the PPI was to cover sickness and so they should have paid me or perhaps I don’t remember as clearly and maybe there was some sort of waiting period before a claim which I did not meet the criteria for but this wasn’t explained when I took out the PPI if that was the case. Thanks in advance for any advice

It makes no difference to the redress if your complaint is successful.
Redress is a defined calculation, not a negotiable figure.0
